Story Tellers vs Teacher......

This week we started a new Reading and Writing unit of Study. In Reading, we are going to read non-fiction books and learn about the world. In Writing, we get to be teachers and write teaching books about topics we know a lot about. We think of a topic then plan our writing saying it on our fingers, next sketch across pages and last write the words, revise and edit.

      In Math, we work on subtraction number stories and add more words to our Math Word Bank.

            Mandarin is much more tricky but Ms. Cherry makes learning a lot more fun.

Handwriting takes a lot of practice to keep those letters in check. We learned that some letters are called Frog Jump letters and others are called Center Starting letters.

                In Social Social studies we learn about CONFLICT and COOPERATION.

At the end of a week filled with fun learning, we enjoy finding out which House Team collected the most points !!!

Celebrating Our Small Moments Writing

We took turns sharing our writing with our peers and teachers. A proud moment after all that hard work!

In Math, we counted pennies, added  more words to our Word Bank and drew 2D shapes using the ruler.

In STEAM, this balancing act was much easier. We are experts now!

The students were so excited to share their Timelines with their classmates. Showing off their photos at birth, one year later, their holiday snapshots and their brothers and sisters. Each stood by his or her poster and told the story..... Way to go Grade 1B!

We mark how many times we read the book on a post-it.

                                              Even learning about animals.

Or enjoying a chapter book with a friend.

In Math we learned about telling the time, we did not know that ONE minute is a long time to sit quietly, eyes closed.

     Math can be tricky, but not impossible to solve!
